By now you are used to seeing the iconic 911 shape among Oloi’s featured rides. From this coveted 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 to our track-happy 2018 911 GT3, it is clear that we have a soft spot for these fast German coupes. This month we are taking you back to the air-cooled era with this minty 1986 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera, which was produced for the 1984-89 model years.

Our Grand Prix White Carrera 3.2 comes from the collection of Oloi founder Thomas Lee. Its Cashmere interior features shades of brown and black. The 3.2-liter flat-six engine sends 207 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. It could hit 60 miles per hour from a standstill in less than six seconds and go on to nearly 150 mph.

Thomas purchased the car in 2018 with 9,000 miles on the clock.

“I see this as a gentleman’s car,” Thomas told NewYorKars. “I can take my lady out on a weekend, go out for a nice cruise, and end up at a restaurant by the sea. And because it’s so bright, we can also take it to lunch at the beach. This car is like a cruiser from Porsche with an elegance that speaks to me.”

With a garage full of the more performance-oriented 911 generations, what made Thomas pull the trigger on the 3.2 over the 930 Turbo?

“I wanted a 1986 car because that was the year I was born,” Thomas said.

The 1986 930 Turbo came equipped with a four-speed manual rather than the five-speed you’ll find in the 3.2. It wasn’t until the final 1989 model year that the Turbo received a Getrag five-speed. While Thomas collects RS model cars, including the 964 RS, 993 RS, and the RS 4.0, there was no such model for his birth year. When he saw the clean 3.2 Carrera, he made moves.

Though he did not keep it very long, Thomas enjoyed his time with the car. The next owner will certainly get plenty of enjoyment out of it. Thomas is looking for another ’86 car to replace it and is considering a Toyota Corolla Sport, also known as the AE86 or “Hachi-Roku.”
